Teen Driver Dies in Fiery Crash in Calcasieu Parish
Lake Charles – On November 21, 2022, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of LA Hwy 397 and Gauthier Road in Calcasieu Parish. The crash claimed the life of 16-year-old Philip Michael Conner of Holmwood.
The initial investigation revealed a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Conner, was traveling east on Gauthier Road and approaching the intersection of LA 397. At the same time, the driver of a 2011 GMC Acadia, was traveling south on LA 397 and approaching the intersection of Gauthier Road. Conner disregarded the stop sign, entered the intersection, and was struck by the GMC on the driver’s side. After the initial impact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and the Toyota became engulfed in flames after rolling onto its side.
Conner suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use on the part of Conner is unknown due to the extent of damage to the Toyota. The driver of the GMC sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a Lake Charles area hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
