SVU Investigation Leads to Arrest of Sorrento Man for 792 Counts of Child Exploitation

Sorrento – In December 2024, the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (LSP SVU), with assistance from the FBI Baton Rouge Field Office, Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, in affiliation with the Louisiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the LSP Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Narcotics/Detectives, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, began an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Matthew Corkern of Sorrento.

The investigation was initiated after the LSP SVU received a cybertip related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The tip included information about a social media account containing multiple videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). A search warrant was obtained for the associated account, and the investigative return identified Corkern as the account holder.

On April 25, 2025, investigators executed search and arrest warrants at a residence belonging to Corkern, where he was arrested and charged with sixty-two (62) counts of Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of 13. Corkern was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Further investigation revealed an additional seven hundred and thirty (730) images and videos of child sexual abuse material on a cellular device belonging to Corkern. On April 28, 2025, Corkern was charged with an additional seven hundred and thirty (730) counts of Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of 13. This case remains under investigation.

LSP SVU works to rescue and seek justice for the victims of crimes involving the exploitation of children and the trafficking of humans for sex or labor through investigative partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and through public education. The public plays an important role in identifying suspects accused of these crimes and is urged to report criminal or suspicious activity. The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through an anonymous reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators. The form can be found by visiting http://la-safe.org/ and clicking on the “Suspicious Activity” link.
