Marrero – On August 7, 2026, shortly before 11:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 45 (Barataria Boulevard) near College Parkway in Jefferson Parish. The crash claimed the life of 44-year-old Joleen Walls of Marrero.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Walls was driving a 2006 Toyota 4Runner south on LA 45 approaching College Parkway. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota traveled off the right side of the roadway into a drainage ditch, where it struck a culvert and utility pole before overturning.
Walls, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both impairment and speed are suspected contributing factors in this crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers remind motorists that speeding and impaired driving are major contributing factors in fatal crashes across the state. Drivers are urged to make responsible decisions by driving sober, obeying posted speed limits, and remaining attentive while traveling. Proper use of seat belts can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death. Safe driving practices can help prevent crashes and protect lives.
