Suspect Charged with Second-Degree Murder and Additional Offenses Following 2024 Officer-Involved Shooting

Iberia Parish – On February 21, 2025, detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations charged 31-year-old Nyjal Hurst of Jeanerette in connection with the July 25, 2024, officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of Senior Corporal Segus Jolivette of the Lafayette Police Department. 

As the investigation progressed, detectives obtained an arrest warrant and filed additional charges against Hurst, who has been in custody at the Iberia Parish Jail since July 25, 2024. He is now charged with the following: 

 

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released in coordination with the Iberia Parish District Attorney’s Office as it becomes available.

Louisiana State Police Detectives Continue Investigation of Officer-Involved Shooting Which Left One Officer Dead and Three Others Injured  

Louisiana State Police Detectives continue the investigation of an officer-involved shooting that took place in Jeanerette earlier today. During the incident, one officer lost his life, and three other officers were injured. The suspect has been apprehended and is no longer a danger to the public.  

This investigation remains ongoing and further information will be provided when it becomes available.

Louisiana State Police Detectives Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Jeanerette 

Iberia Parish – On July 25, 2024, shortly after 4:30 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving multiple law enforcement agencies, which occurred on Hubertville Road near Martin Luther King Drive in Jeanerette.  

Investigators are working to gather information, and the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is responding to process the scene. This is an active investigation; additional information will be released when it becomes available.
