Bastrop – On Friday, October 3, 2025, shortly before 11:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Dowd Road, just east of Louisiana Highway 139. The crash claimed the life of 43-year-old Timothy Gross of Sterlington.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2013 Toyota Rav4, driven by Gross, was traveling east on Dowd Road. At the same time, a 2012 Nissan Altima was traveling west on Dowd Road. For reasons still under investigation, Gross crossed over the centerline and struck the Nissan head-on in the westbound lane of Dowd Road.

Gross, who was unrestrained, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, who was properly restrained, received moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chances of being severely injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seatbelt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce the risk of injury during a crash.
