*Update* State Police Detectives Continue Investigation of Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy-Involved Shooting

Louisiana State Police Detectives continue the investigation into a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Lafayette Parish on July 10, 2024. The incident claimed the life of 53-year-old Tony Pollard of Rayne.

Preliminary investigation revealed that deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office were attempting to take Pollard into custody for outstanding arrest warrants. During the encounter, Pollard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab assisted in processing the scene.

This investigation remains active, and further information will be released when it becomes available.

Deputy-Involved Shooting

Lafayette Parish – On July 10, 2024, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division were requested by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate a deputy-involved shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Wagon Trail Road near Carencro. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.

One subject was pronounced deceased on the scene. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation; further information will be released when it becomes available.
