*UPDATE* LSP Requested to Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Ascension Parish
Gonzales – Louisiana State Police detectives continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Ascension Parish on March 5, 2026.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 10:45 p.m., a Gonzales Police Department (GPD) officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of South John Street and Orice Roth Road in Gonzales. The officer then made contact with the driver, 21-year-old Anthony Talbert of Baton Rouge, and a female passenger.
At some point during the encounter, Talbert reached toward a firearm that was inside the vehicle. In response, the officer discharged his department-issued firearm one time, grazing both Talbert and the female passenger. Talbert then fled the scene, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph and disregarding multiple traffic controls.
After a short pursuit, Talbert was taken into custody. He was charged with Aggravated Flight, Reckless Operation, Obstruction of Justice, and Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. The female passenger was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. This is an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.

Gonzales – At approximately 11:00 p.m. on March 5, 2026, the Gonzales Police Department (GPD) requested assistance from the Louisiana State Police – Bureau of Investigations to investigate an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred on South John Avenue south of West Orice Roth Road in Ascension Parish. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.
One subject was wounded and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.
