*UPDATE* LSP Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Pointe Coupee Parish

New Roads – Louisiana State Police detectives continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in New Roads. On September 19, 2025, the New Roads Police Department (NRPD) was dispatched to 1270 Hospital Road to respond to a complaint of a subject causing a disturbance behind a local business.

When responding officers arrived on scene, they encountered the subject, later identified as 45-year-old John Sexton of New Roads. During the encounter, an officer discharged his service weapon at Sexton, striking him several times. Sexton was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical, but stable condition. This remains an active investigation, and further information will be released when it becomes available.

New Roads - Just after 5:00 p.m. on September 19, 2025, Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 1270 Hospital Road in New Roads. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.

One subject was wounded and transported to a local hospital. No officers were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.
