*UPDATE* Louisiana State Police Investigating Multiple-Agency Officer-Involved Shooting in Tangipahoa Parish

Independence – Louisiana State Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into a multi-agency officer-involved shooting that occurred on November 12, 2025, in Tangipahoa Parish.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident began just before 3:00 a.m. when a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a 2016 Chevrolet Trax on Highway 51 for an equipment violation. During the course of the traffic stop, the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Trey Ramey of Brusly, fled the scene, and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, Ramey produced a firearm and fired multiple shots at responding officers. An Independence Police Department officer was struck and injured by the gunfire. During that encounter, a Tickfaw Police Department officer exchanged gunfire with Ramey.

Ramey then carjacked two victims of their 2015 Toyota Camry and fled on Highway 51. While fleeing in the stolen vehicle, Ramey crashed and abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot into a wooded area.  During the course of events, a Louisiana State Trooper discharged their service weapon.  Ramey was ultimately taken into custody and remains in a local hospital receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

Investigators later learned that Ramey had active warrants for Hit and Run, Careless Operation, Filing False Police Reports, and Injuring Public Records. Upon release from the hospital, Ramey will be booked on the warrants and further charges stemming from the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and further information will be released in conjunction with the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney’s Office as the investigation progresses.
