Louisiana State Police detectives continue the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Calcasieu Parish on May 31, 2024.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an Iowa Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle related to a reported theft on I-10 West in Iowa. During the stop, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit proceeded westbound on I-10, stopping briefly in the 2400 block of Toomey Road in Vinton. While on Toomey Road, an officer discharged their firearm and struck the vehicle. The pursuit then continued eastbound on I-10 before coming to a stop in a business parking lot in the 2000 block of West Street in Vinton where the driver was taken into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.

State Police Detectives Investigating Iowa Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting
Calcasieu Parish – At approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 31, 2024, detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Iowa Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the area of I-10 westbound near mile marker 7. Investigators are working to process the scene and gather further information.
No officers or subjects were harmed during the incident. This is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.
