On June 3, 2024, detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) to investigate a deputy-involved shooting in Crowley. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 52-year-old Jacob Richard of Rayne.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Richard, who was wanted for multiple felonies, was spotted by two deputies with the APSO on South Avenue H. The injured deputies were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital and subsequently released.
