St. Francisville – Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on August 13, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 61, at the intersection of Rosemound Loop Road. The crash claimed the life of 83-year-old Vernon Johnson Sr. of St. Francisville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling southbound on US 61. At the same time, a 2013 Toyota Corolla, driven by Johnson, was traveling eastbound on Rosemound Loop Road, approaching the intersection of US 61. As the Toyota approached the intersection, Johnson failed to yield at the stop sign before attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US 61 and entered the path of the Ford. The front of the Ford impacted the driver’s side of the Toyota.

Johnson was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford was also properly restrained and was uninjured. While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
