St. Amant Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash in Ascension Parish

Sorrento – On Saturday, September 6, 2025, just after 3:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 61 near Pond Road in Ascension Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 59-year-old Jeffery Luquette of St. Amant.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Luquette was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette north on US 61 at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe, also traveling north on US 61. Following the impact, the Corvette traveled off the roadway and impacted a tree.

Luquette was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Tahoe, who was also properly restrained, sustained minor injuries. Impairment is not suspected; however, a standard toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

Speeding and aggressive driving continue to be leading causes of fatal crashes. Driving at excessive speeds reduces a motorist’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, increases the distance required to stop, and extends the distance traveled while reacting to a situation. Troopers remind all motorists of the importance of making safe decisions behind the wheel. Motorists who observe reckless driving or criminal activity are encouraged to dial 911 or *LSP (*577) to connect with the nearest Louisiana State Police Troop.
