Sorrento Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in St. Charles Parish
Montz – On August 17, 2022, around 4:15 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a single-vehicle crash on US 61 near Evangeline Road in St. Charles Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 52-year-old James Kennedy of Sorrento.
The initial investigation revealed that Kennedy was driving a 2019 Hyundai Elantra north on US 61 near Evangeline Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai traveled from the left lane of US 61 north, across the center of the highway before crossing the southbound lanes of US 61. The Hyundai continued beyond the southbound lanes and traveled off the roadway before impacting a utility pole.
Kennedy, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment on the part of Kennedy is not suspected, however routine toxicology results are pending.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
