Slidell Teen Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash
Slidell – Last night, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two vehicle crash on Interstate 12 near LA Hwy 434 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 16-year-old Christian Tullis of Slidell.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Tullis was eastbound on Interstate 12 in a 2010 Nissan Titan. At the same time, a 2021 Freightliner 18-wheeler was also eastbound on Interstate 12 in front of the Nissan. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan struck the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer.
Despite Tullis being properly restrained, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was properly restrained and sustained no injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the Freightliner was not suspected of being impaired and voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test which showed no alcohol detected. A routine toxicology sample was collected from Tullis and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued or distracted, follow all traffic laws and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
