DeRidder – On July 29, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 3226 near the intersection with Glendale Road. The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Christopher Burge of Singer.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Burge, was traveling south on LA Hwy 3226 behind a 2019 Mack dump truck. Due to construction congestion ahead, the dump truck came to a stop. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet failed to come to a stop and struck the rear of the dump truck.
Burge, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was properly restrained and not injured in the crash.While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers encourage all motorists to make wise choices while driving. Distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Troop D has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 12 fatalities in 2024.
