Benton – This morning, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3 near Alden Bridge Loop. The crash claimed the life of 56-year-old Mary Sparks of Shreveport.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Sparks, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 3. At the same time, a 2011 Peterbilt 386 was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 3. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline and collided with the Peterbilt.

Sparks, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment on the part of Sparks is not suspected; however, standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Police urges all drivers to obey traffic laws and remain alert while driving. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
