Rapides Parish – On Monday, April 27, 2026, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a three-vehicle crash on I-49 northbound near mile marker 101.  The crash claimed the life of 24-year-old Dillon Jenkins of Shreveport.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Jenkins, a 2018 Dodge Ram and a 2019 Toyota were northbound on I-49.  For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Dodge Ram failed to slow down and rear-ended the Kawasaki.  After the initial impact, the driver of the Kawasaki was ejected from the motorcycle and was subsequently struck by the Toyota.

Jenkins sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram and the driver of the Toyota, who both were restrained, sustained no injuries. Toxicology sample were obtained and submitted for analysis.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state.  Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving.  A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.
