Rapides Parish Man Killed in Calcasieu Parish Crash

DeQuincy – On August 7, 2024, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 12 approximately 1 mile west of the DeQuincy city limits. The crash claimed the life of 59-year-old Warren Eugene Wood of Elmer.

The preliminary investigation revealed Wood was driving a 1996 Peterbilt dump truck westbound on LA Hwy 12. For reasons still under investigation, the dump truck left the roadway to the right, overcorrected, and traveled back across the roadway to the left. The dump truck then turned over onto its left side before sliding into a wooded tree line, striking several trees, and immediately caught fire.

Due to the severity of the crash, seatbelt usage is unknown for Wood. He received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
