Port Allen Woman Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish
Greenwell Springs – Shortly before noon on April 14, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a three-vehicle crash on LA 37 near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old Chiquita Rogers of Port Allen.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Rogers, was traveling northbound on LA 37 and stopped to make a left turn. At the same time, a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer was also traveling northbound on LA 37 behind the Chevrolet. For reasons still under investigation, the Freightliner struck the rear of the Chevrolet, pushing it into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the right side by a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer traveling southbound.
Rogers was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The drivers of the Freightliner and the Mack were properly restrained and were not injured as a result of this crash. As part of the ongoing investigation, standard toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.
Troopers urge all motorists to drive responsibly by avoiding impairment, fatigue, and distractions, obeying traffic laws, and ensuring everyone is properly restrained. While not all crashes are preventable, simple precautions like these can save lives.
