Port Allen – Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on March 26, 2024, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 190 just east of LA 415 near Industrial Blvd. The crash claimed the life of 49-year-old Paul Russell David Jr. of Plaquemine.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Nissan Rogue, driven by David, was traveling westbound on US 190 in the left lane behind a 2024 Western Star dump truck. For unknown reasons, the Nissan struck the right rear of the dump truck while it was stopped, preparing to make a left turn into a private driveway. After the initial impact, the Nissan overturned and traveled off the roadway to the right.

David, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis. The driver of the dump truck was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists the importance of making good decisions while in motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, always ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and follow all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
