Pitkin Woman Killed in Vernon Parish ATV Crash
Vernon Parish – On August 13, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Webster Maricle Road west of Louisiana Highway 113. This crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Belinda R. Thompson of Pitkin.
The initial investigation revealed a 2004 John Deere all-terrain vehicle (ATV), driven by Thompson, was traveling east on Webster Maricle Road. For reasons still under investigation, Thompson’s ATV experienced a tire malfunction, which caused the ATV to overturn several times. This action ejected Thompson from the ATV.
Thompson sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On August 14, 2022, Troop E was notified that Thompson had ultimately succumbed to her injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
In 2022, Troop E has investigated 27 fatal crashes, resulting in 29 deaths.
