Pedestrians Killed in Concordia Parish Crash

Concordia Parish – On December 9, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 84 near the 84 Quick Stop. This crash killed 67-year-old Carleen A. Smith of Farmerville and Donnie J. Free of Ferriday.

The initial investigation revealed that Smith and Donnie were walking in the roadway when they were struck by an eastbound 2018 Chevrolet Journey and a westbound 2018 Dodge Challenger. As a result, Smith and Donnie sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians should always make themselves visible to drivers by wearing bright/light-colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians should always walk on a sidewalk, but if no sidewalk is available, they should walk as close to the roadway edge and face traffic. If pedestrians walk at night, they should carry a flashlight for added safety.
