Pedestrian Killed in Single-Vehicle Pointe Coupee Parish Crash
Oscar – Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on March 18, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA 1 near US 190 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash claimed the life of 74-year-old Susan Shows of Lakeland.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2024 John Deere Tractor, hauling tandem tanker trailers, was traveling southbound on LA 1, just north of US 190. For reasons still under investigation, the trailers detached, veered off the roadway, and struck Shows, who was standing in her driveway.
Shows sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash; however, a standard toxicology sample will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash is still under investigation, and charges will be determined based on the findings.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always properly secure your trailer before hitting the road. Ensure the hitch is locked, safety chains are crossed, and the load is balanced. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always check that your trailer’s lights and brakes are functioning. A well-secured trailer is essential for safe driving, and taking simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
