Pedestrian Killed in Ouachita Parish Crash
Monroe – This afternoon, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 80 near Selman Drive. The crash claimed the life of 53-year-old Ayonna Wilson of Monroe.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 Nissan Altima was traveling west on U.S. Highway 80. At the same time, Wilson entered the roadway and walked into the path of the Nissan. This action resulted in the Nissan colliding with her. Wilson sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and uninjured.
Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge pedestrians to exercise caution when walking near roadways. Wearing light-colored clothing, avoiding distractions, and keeping a safe distance from travel lanes while walking near oncoming vehicles can help prevent pedestrian-related crashes. Motorists should also remain vigilant when approaching disabled vehicles or pedestrians near the roadside.
