Pedestrian Killed in Late Night Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish
Baton Rouge – Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on April 18, 2025, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 408 near Governor Claiborne Drive in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 72-year-old Patrick Dooley of Baton Rouge.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Dooley was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of LA 408. At the same time, a 2015 Toyota Camry and a 2011 GMC Yukon were traveling east on LA 408 in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, Dooley entered the left lane and was struck by the Camry. After the initial impact, he was struck a second time by the Yukon.
Dooley sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. All occupants of both vehicles were properly restrained. A child passenger in the Camry sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. All other occupants in both vehicles were uninjured. Impairment is not suspected for either driver, but routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. No charges are pending at this time.
Troopers urge all pedestrians and motorists to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times. Pedestrians should cross roadways at well-lit intersections and wear reflective clothing when walking near traffic, especially at night. These safety practices are critical in reducing preventable tragedies on our roadways.
