Gretna – On Thursday, April 17, 2025, just before 05:00 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a crash involving a pedestrian on the upper level of US 90B near Stumpf Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 24-year-old Shamond Jacobs of Terrytown.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Jacobs was walking in the eastbound lanes of the upper level of US 90B near Stumpf Boulevard, wearing dark clothing. At the same time, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on US 90B and struck Jacobs.

Jacobs suffered serious injuries and died on scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was properly restrained and uninjured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained, and results are pending analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Practicing pedestrian safety guidelines while walking near roadways is crucial in reducing the risk of crashes. Pedestrians should never walk on interstate systems, elevated portions of highways, or in the lanes of travel of any roadway. Additionally, anyone walking near roadways should always wear brightly colored clothing or use reflective accessories when walking in low-light conditions, which can significantly improve visibility for drivers. By following these practices, pedestrians can enhance their safety and minimize the chances of crashes.
