Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish
Baton Rouge – Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US 61, just south of LA 42 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash claimed the life of 48-year-old Travis Weams of Prairieville.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2012 Toyota Camry, driven by Weams, had previously crashed on US 61 northbound near Manchac Park Road. After the initial crash, Weams exited his vehicle, crossed the median, and walked into the northbound lane of US 61. At that time, a 2019 Mack garbage truck struck Weams. After initial impact, he was struck again by a 2016 Ford Mustang.
Weams sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Both drivers of the Mack truck and the Mustang were properly restrained and reported no injuries. Impairment is not suspected for either driver; however, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and Weams for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers urge all pedestrians and motorists to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times. Pedestrians should cross roadways at well-lit intersections and wear reflective clothing when walking near traffic, especially at night. These safety practices are critical in reducing preventable tragedies on our roadways.
