Loranger – On April 8, 2025, shortly before 5:50 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 445 near Gliderport Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 73-year-old Keith Guidry of Loranger.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Ford F-350 was traveling north on LA Hwy 445. At the same time, Guidry was traveling southbound in a wheelchair in the northbound lane of the highway. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford struck Guidry in the roadway.

Guidry was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained, was not injured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were collected from both Guidry and the driver for analysis.

Louisiana State Police urge both pedestrians and motorists to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while on or near roadways. Crashes involving pedestrians are often preventable when basic safety practices are followed. Pedestrians, including those using mobility devices, should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and avoid traveling on roadways in dark areas. Pedestrians must assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Pedestrians should cross roadways in well-lit, designated areas and always travel facing traffic. These simple steps can help enhance safety for all pedestrians.
