Pedestrian Killed in Ascension Parish Crash
Sorrento – Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on September 17, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on US 61 near Frank Drive in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 38-year-old male from Daytona Beach, Florida.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on US 61, just north of LA 22. At the same time, the pedestrian was walking north in the left travel lane of US 61. For reasons still under investigation, the Silverado struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane of US 61, near the intersection of Frank Drive.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Silverado was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was uninjured. Impairment is unknown; however, routine toxicology samples will be obtained from both the pedestrian and the driver of the Silverado and submitted for analysis.
Louisiana State Police reminds pedestrians to remain alert and, whenever possible, use sidewalks or designated walking areas. When sidewalks are unavailable, pedestrians should walk facing traffic and remain as far from the travel lane as practical. Motorists should remain attentive, avoid distractions, and continuously scan the roadway for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.
