Laplace – Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on November 1, 2025, Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on I-10 east, near US 51 in St. John the Baptist Parish. The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old William Ferguson of Laplace.
The preliminary investigation revealed that three separate crashes occurred moments apart and within close proximity on I-10 east, just east of US 51. The first crash involved a Nissan and a Honda, which left the Honda disabled in the roadway. Shortly after, a second crash occurred when a 2022 Dodge Charger struck the disabled Honda. Before emergency personnel arrived, Ferguson, a passenger in the Dodge, exited the vehicle and was walking in the area of the crash when he was struck by a 2023 Dodge Charger.
Ferguson sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Earlier today, the investigating Troopers were notified that Ferguson succumbed to his injuries on November 6, 2025. This crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrians should also exercise caution when walking near roadways. Wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and keeping a safe distance from traffic lanes while facing oncoming vehicles can help prevent pedestrian-related crashes.
Troopers urge all motorists to remain alert and use caution when approaching disabled vehicles or pedestrians along the roadway. Many crashes involving pedestrians are preventable when basic safety precautions are followed. Walking along an interstate is prohibited under Louisiana law, except in emergencies. If you must walk near highways or other roadways, wear reflective clothing, stay in well-lit areas, walk facing oncoming traffic, and avoid distractions.
