UPDATE: The front seat passenger is identified as 37-year-old Leonardo Reyes-Reyes of Jefferson.
Jefferson – On Friday, June 27, 2025, just before 1:00 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a single-vehicle crash on US 90 (Jefferson Highway) near Labarre Road. The crash ultimately claimed the life of the passenger, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
The preliminary investigation revealed that 37-year-old Teodoro Leiva Gomez of Jefferson was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima west on Jefferson Highway near Labarre Road. For reasons still under investigation, Gomez ran off the left side of the roadway, entered the median, and crashed into an electrical pole.
The front seat passenger, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. Gomez, who was properly restrained, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, Gomez showed signs of impairment and was ultimately arrested. After his release from the hospital, Gomez was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for Vehicular Homicide, DWI (2nd Offense), and other traffic-related charges. This crash remains under investigation.
Far too often, Troopers see the tragic results of preventable crashes. As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, Louisiana State Police urge motorists to plan ahead before consuming alcohol. Impaired driving - whether from alcohol, drugs, or both - is dangerous and can have deadly consequences. Always avoid driving or riding with an impaired driver, ensure all passengers are properly restrained, and stay focused on the road.
