Baton Rouge – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft Unit have arrested an employee of the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles for Malfeasance in Office and other charges related to the fraudulent issuance of Commercial Drivers Licenses and Commercial Learners Permits.
On Wednesday May 11, 2022, Troopers arrested 28-year old Reggie James, Jr. of Baton Rouge for Public Bribery (one count), Injuring Public Records (six counts), and Malfeasance in Office (one count). During an internal audit conducted by the Office of Motor Vehicles, it was discovered that between the months of February 2022 and March 2022, James issued six Commercial Learners Permits / Commercial Drivers Licenses to individuals who had not taken or passed the related tests. James was immediately placed on administrative leave and the investigation was referred to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers determined that, on at least one occasion James accepted $1,300 cash in exchange for issuing a Commercial Driver’s License to a customer who had not passed the required tests. Troopers also confirmed that James had also issued Commercial Learners Permits / Commercial Drivers Licenses to customers without having passed or taken tests. James was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
