New Orleans Man Arrested for Extortion

New Orleans – On April 27, 2022, Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigative Division New Orleans Field Office (CID-NFO) arrested 59-year-old Thomas Daquin of New Orleans for charges related to extortion of a previous employer.

On March 29, 2022, detectives began investigating a complaint of possible extortion. The investigation revealed that Daquin was terminated by his employer in late 2021. Months later, Daquin began sending emails to the previous employer claiming he had fallen multiple times on a staircase at the location of employment. Daquin was demanding a settlement for pain and suffering. Daquin also claimed he witnessed his previous employer committing illegal acts. Furthermore, on several occasions, Daquin demanded that the employer pay him $20,000 in lieu of reporting the alleged illegal activity to a local school.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Daquin also tampered with the computer of the previous employer and took pictures of multiple associate’s personal information in addition to other personal information. Despite his employment at the time, Daquin was not authorized to access the computer.

On April 26, 2022, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Daquin through the 41st Judicial District Court charging him with Extortion and Computer Tampering. On April 27, 2022, Daquin was arrested at his residence and booked into the Orleans Parish Jail. As a result of the investigation, detectives found no evidence to validate Daquin’s accusation of the employer committing illegal acts.
