New Iberia Woman Succumbs to Injuries in St. Martin Parish Crash

St. Martinville – On December 04, 2025, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 96 near Louisiana Highway 345 in St. Martin Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 61-year-old Kongkham Phommachanh of New Iberia.   
 
The preliminary investigation revealed that Phommachanh was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra west on LA Hwy 96. For reasons still under investigation, the Tundra failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway, and then overturned.  
 
Phommachanh, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.  
 
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Phommachanh and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.  
 
Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of making responsible decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
