Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of a Hahnville Man

St. Charles - Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on January 23, 2024, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a multi-vehicle fatal crash on U.S.90 near Pier 90. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 41-year-old Tyler Scott of Hahnville.

The initial investigation revealed Scott was driving a 2005 Ford Ranger west on U.S.90, approaching Pier 90. At the same time, a 2021 Audi Q8 was traveling east on U.S.90. As the Ranger traveled west, it encountered and struck a large animal in the roadway. After the initial impact, Scott lost control of the Ranger and traveled across the median into the eastbound lanes and the path of the Audi. The Ranger impacted the Audi head-on before impacting a 2020 Ford Explorer. The impact with the Audi caused its driver to lose control and travel across the median into the westbound lanes, where it impacted a 2018 GMC Sierra and a 2016 Toyota Camry.

Despite being properly restrained, Scott suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The drivers of the Audi, GMC and the Explorer suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured. While impairment is unknown, standard toxicology samples were taken from all drivers and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists always to make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws and ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
