Motorist Killed in Jefferson Parish Head-On Crash

Avondale – On March 14, 2026, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 18 near Avondale Garden Road in Jefferson Parish. The crash claimed the life of 78-year-old Jerry Comardelle of Ama.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Nissan Frontier, driven by Comardelle, was traveling east on LA Hwy 18. At the same time, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on LA Hwy 18. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and struck the Chevrolet head-on.

Comardelle, who was properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, who was unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Standard toxicology samples were collected for analysis.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers urge all motorists to make responsible decisions behind the wheel. Avoid driving while impaired, eliminate distractions, and remain attentive while operating a vehicle. Motorists who observe reckless driving are encouraged to dial 911 or *LSP (*577) to be connected with the nearest Louisiana State Police Troop.
