Raceland – On October 12, 2026, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 308, north of U.S. Highway 90. This crash claimed the life of a 36-year-old man from Lockport.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Dodge Ram was traveling south on LA Hwy 308 and preparing to make a left turn into a private driveway. At the same time, a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard was traveling north on LA Hwy 308. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge turned into the path of the oncoming Suzuki, resulting in a collision between the motorcycle and the right front quarter panel of the Dodge.

The motorcyclist was wearing a DOT-approved helmet; however, the helmet was not properly secured. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was properly restrained and was not injured.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from the motorcyclist and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Dodge showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which indicated no alcohol detected. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police wishes to remind motorists to remain alert and carefully check for approaching traffic before turning, changing lanes, or entering another travel lane. Motorcycles are smaller and can be more difficult to see, making it especially important to check mirrors and blind spots. Motorcyclists should remain vigilant, and always wear a DOT-approved helmet. A few extra seconds of awareness can help prevent a serious or fatal crash.
