Vinton – On September 17, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 90 near I-10. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old Kelly Fox of Osyka, Mississippi.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Fox, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 90. At the same time, a 2019 Kia Sorento, driven by Romero Chavis of Orange, Texas, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 90. For reasons still under investigation, the Kia turned left in front of the Suzuki. The front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the Kia, causing Fox to be ejected.

Fox, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, received fatal injuries and died at the scene. Chavis, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured.

Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to take an extra moment, look twice, and be alert for motorcycles. By working together and following these tips, you can help prevent serious injury and deadly crashes.
