Chalmette – On January 6, 2026, shortly after 1:00 a.m., Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 46 near Chalmette Avenue in St. Bernard Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 51-year-old Antonio Verrett of New Orleans.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Honda CBR 1000RR, driven by Verrett, was traveling east on LA Highway 46 toward Chalmette Ave. For reasons still under investigation, Verrett lost control of his motorcycle, was ejected, and struck a tree.

Verrett, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained serious injuries and died on scene. A standard toxicology sample was collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired, in good weather conditions, and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death. Troopers also urge all motorcyclists to prioritize safety and consider enrolling in an approved motorcycle safety course. These programs equip riders with essential skills and strategies that can prevent accidents and save lives.
