Metairie – On Sunday, October 6, 2024, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B were notified of a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on LA 3152 (Clearview Parkway) near LA 3139 (Earhart Boulevard) in Metairie. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 27-year-old Cameron Blackwell of Belle Chasse.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Blackwell was driving a 2014 Yamaha FZ09 Motorcycle north on the elevated portion of LA 3152, just north of LA 3139. For reasons still under investigation, the Yamaha failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the roadway, and impacted the guardrail. As a result, Blackwell fell over the guardrail to the ground below.
Blackwell, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, was pronounced dead on scene. Standard toxicology samples were collected from Blackwell and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Whether on a motorcycle or in a vehicle, drivers should make good decisions while traveling. Vehicle operators should practice safe and responsible behavior, including following speed limits, wearing a DOT-approved helmet while on a motorcycle or a seatbelt in a vehicle, and never operating their vehicle while impaired. It is crucial to remember that speeding decreases reaction time, increases stopping distance, heightens the risk of losing control of your vehicle, and reduces the effectiveness of safety devices such as helmets and seatbelts in the event of a crash. If motorists witness hazardous situations or possible impaired drivers, they may dial *LSP (*577) to be connected to the nearest Troop to report that activity. Let us all make the responsible choice to prioritize safety on the roadways. Additionally, troopers encourage residents to take advantage of the Department of Public Safety’s motorcycle operator training courses. Classes range from beginner to advanced.
