Motorcyclist Killed in Lafayette Parish Crash

Duson – On March 13, 2026, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 724 near Lagneaux Road in Lafayette Parish. The crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Gavin Recktenwald of Duson.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2023 Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on LA Hwy 724. At the same time, a 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by Recktenwald was traveling east on LA Hwy 724. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Tacoma failed to yield to the approaching motorcycle and turned into its path while attempting to turn left onto Lagneaux Road. The motorcycle then struck the passenger side of the Tacoma, ejecting Recktenwald.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Recktenwald sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle.
