Motorcyclist Killed in Jefferson Parish Crash

Published: 06-17-2025 | Category: Troop B

Jefferson – On Thursday, June 12, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B began investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 90 (Jefferson Highway) at Monticello Avenue in Jefferson Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 64-year-old Mason Stevenson of New Orleans.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Stevenson was driving a 2019 Indian Motorcycle east on US 90, approaching Monticello Avenue. At the same time, a 2016 Toyota Highlander began turning left from US 90 west to Monticello Avenue, directly into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in the motorcycle impacting the passenger side of the Toyota.

Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Stevenson suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition. On Monday, June 16, 2025, Troop B was notified that Stevenson died due to his injuries from the crash. At the time of the crash, the driver of the Highlander was properly restrained and uninjured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, voluntary blood samples were collected and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while traveling. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. With the warmer weather, more motorcyclists are on Louisiana roads. Drivers are highly encouraged to take an extra second to look for motorcycles before turning, changing lanes, or pulling out. This is crucial as motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
