Motorcyclist Killed in Early Morning Crash in Ascension Parish
Geismar – Shortly after 5:45 a.m. on February 6, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 30 east of LA 73 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Craig Burns of Carville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Toyota Corolla was stopped northbound on a private road, preparing to turn onto LA 30. At the same time, a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, operated by Burns, was traveling east on LA 30. For reasons still under investigation, the Corolla pulled from the private road and attempted to turn west onto LA 30, directly into the path of the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle was unable to stop and struck the driver’s side front fender and door of the Corolla.
Burns was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Corolla was unrestrained and was uninjured. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. As warmer weather approaches and more motorcycles take to the road, drivers are urged to remain alert, check twice for motorcyclists, and share the roadway responsibly to help prevent serious and fatal crashes. Additionally, when riding motorcycles, utilizing proper safety equipment, such as DOT-approved helmets, can decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury. We encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. Motorcycle riders can gain more information on helmet guidelines and rider safety courses by visiting https://www.lsp.org/services/training/motorcycle-safety/.
