Slidell – On May 14, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle crash on US Highway 11 near North Lakeview Drive in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Gavin B. Dietrich of Slidell.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m., though it was not reported until later in the day. Dietrich was driving a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja ZX 10R south on US Highway 11 near North Lakeview Drive at a high rate of speed while approaching a right-hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, Dietrich failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the left side of the roadway into a gravel parking lot, and over an embankment. Dietrich was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the coastal shoreline riprap.

Dietrich, whose helmet use is unknown at this time, sustained serious injuries and died on the scene. As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
