Folsom – On March 15, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 40 near Mary Ellen Drive in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 31-year-old Jesse M. Waddell of Mandeville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Waddell was driving a 2026 Honda CBR600RR west on LA 40 near Mary Ellen Drive at a high rate of speed while approaching a left-hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, Waddell failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the right side of the roadway. Waddell was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a tree.
Waddell, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. As warmer weather approaches and more motorcycles take to the road, drivers are urged to remain alert, check twice for motorcyclists, and share the roadway responsibly to help prevent serious and fatal crashes. Additionally, when riding motorcycles, utilizing proper safety equipment, such as DOT-approved helmets, can decrease the chances of traumatic brain injury. We encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. Motorcycle riders can gain more information on helmet guidelines and rider safety courses by visiting https://www.lsp.org/services/training/motorcycle-safety/.
