LSP Investigating Single-Vehicle Crash after Driver Evaded Troopers in New Orleans

New Orleans – On Saturday, March 7, 2026, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit and LSP Troop B began investigating a single-vehicle crash with serious injuries on North Broad Street underneath the I-610 overpass. The crash occurred after the driver evaded Troopers who were attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Troopers were patrolling the area of Elysian Fields Avenue and North Claiborne Avenue when they attempted to stop a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro for traffic violations. Troopers activated the lights and sirens on their fully marked LSP units; however, the driver of the Camaro refused to stop, leading Troopers on a pursuit while disregarding several traffic controls and traveling at a high rate of speed.

Troopers eventually lost sight of the Camaro, but soon located the vehicle involved in a single-vehicle crash on North Broad Street. The crash investigation determined the Camaro failed to negotiate a left curve on North Broad Street, traveled off the roadway, struck a previously downed telephone pole, and then collided head-on with a concrete bridge support pillar of the I-610 overpass.

Troopers immediately began rendering aid to the occupants of the Camaro. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Caleb Ezidore of New Orleans, sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody. The front and rear-seat passengers were partially ejected and sustained serious injuries. Restraint use remains under investigation, and all three occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment. It was later discovered that the rear-seat passenger of the Camaro was pregnant. Despite life-saving measures by medical staff to deliver the infant, the child did not survive. A standard toxicology sample was also collected from Ezidore.

Since the incident yesterday evening, LSP detectives have continued the investigation, confirming that the Camaro was stolen from New Orleans on December 4, 2025, and had previously evaded law enforcement during a pursuit on February 14, 2026. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ezidore, and upon his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on the charges of Second Degree Feticide, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Two Counts of Negligent Injuring, Reckless Operation, Speeding, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Signal, Disregarding a Stop Sign or Yield Sign, Disobeying a Traffic Control Signal, and additional traffic related charges.

This case is still under investigation by the Force Investigation Unit, and additional charges are possible. Anyone with information, pictures, or video is urged to share it with LSP Detectives.
