LSP Detectives Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Lake Charles

Lake Charles – On August 15, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations were requested by the Lake Charles City Police Department (LCPD) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 2300 block of Creole Street in Lake Charles. As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives identified the deceased subject as 28-year-old Khylin Stevens of Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed that officers with the LCPD responded to a residence on Creole Street in Lake Charles following a 911 call. Upon arrival, officers determined that Stevens had barricaded himself inside the residence. Officers engaged in extended negotiations with Stevens and used several less-lethal measures. During negotiations, Stevens failed to comply with officers’ commands, and produced a weapon. In response, an officer discharged their service weapon, striking Stevens.

Stevens was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were injured during this incident.
