Louisiana State Representative Charged with DWI in Ascension Parish

Gonzales – Following an overnight traffic stop and impaired driving investigation, State Representative Kendricks "Ken" Brass was charged with 1st offense DWI and Improper Lane Use.

Shortly after midnight on July 26, 2024, a Trooper with Louisiana State Police Troop A observed a 2018 GMC Yukon swerving in and out of the travel lane while traveling on LA 44 near Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish.  The driver of the Yukon was later identified as 47-year-old Kendricks "Ken" Brass of Vacherie, LA.  Upon coming into contact with Brass, the Trooper suspected impairment and conducted a series of standardized field sobriety tests.  Brass was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Gonzales Police Department, where he consented to a chemical breath test and registered over the legal limit.

Upon being fingerprinted at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office District 2 Substation, he was released on a summons for LRS 14:98 – Operating a vehicle while intoxicated and LRS 32:79 – Driving on roadway laned for traffic.

Louisiana State Police urge motorists to have a plan in place that includes a designated driver when consuming alcohol. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter the sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills, and decrease reaction times. Alcohol can begin to impair a person's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle after just one drink. Please choose to not drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver, and always buckle up.
