Baton Rouge – On November 25, 2024, Colonel Robert P. Hodges announced the appointment of Lt. Colonel John Porter as the Deputy Superintendent of the newly created Special Operations Command. With this newly created position, the four Patrol Regions and ten Troops will remain under the leadership of the Deputy Superintendent of Patrol, Lt. Colonel Joseph "Jody" Hasselbeck. As the Deputy Superintendent of Special Operations, LTC Porter will oversee the Air Support, Crisis Response, Emergency Services, Transportation Safety Services, DPS Capitol Detail/State Facilities, and DPS Physical Security sections.
LTC Porter has served with the Louisiana State Police for over 30 years. During his tenure, LTC Porter has received an unprecedented level of certifications and expertise in critical incident management, SWAT operations, hazardous materials, and explosive ordinance disposal. Additionally, LTC Porter serves as an instructor and subject matter expert for the Louisiana State Police, Texas A&M University Fire Training Extension, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is also a sitting member of the National Fire Protection Agency's Hazardous Materials 470 Committee, the Louisiana State Emergency Response Commission, and the Region 6 Regional Response Team.
